3 STEPS TO SWIMMING POOL WATER MAINTENANCE

A swimming pool is a great way to cool off on a hot day, but it can also be a lot of work to maintain. One of the most important aspects of pool maintenance is water quality. If your pool water is not clean and clear, it can be a breeding ground for bacteria and algae. This can make your pool unsafe to swim in and can also damage the pool equipment.

Here are three main steps to swimming pool water maintenance:

STEP 1: SANITATION (DAILY)

Sanitation is the process of killing bacteria and other microorganisms in the pool water. The most common method of sanitization is chlorine. Chlorine can be added to the pool water in liquid or granular form. It is important to test the pool water regularly to make sure that the chlorine level is correct. Too much chlorine can irritate the skin and eyes, and too little chlorine will not kill all of the bacteria.

STEP 2: OXIDATION (WEEKLY)

Oxidation is the least applied step and possibly the most important of them. This is the process of breaking down organic contaminants in the pool water that can originate from our sweat, body oils, dead skin, urine, sunscreen, rain-water, wind-blown particulates and leaves. Oxidation helps to keep the pool water crystal clear and prevents algae growth. The most common method of oxidation is with Oxone.

The ease of use, safety and market availability of Oxone as a powerful non-chlorine oxidiser to break down organic matter quickly has made it the solution of choice.

STEP 3: WATER BALANCE (MONTHLY)

Water balance is the process of adjusting the pH and alkalinity of the pool water. Optimal pH level of pool water should be between 7.2 and 7.8. The alkalinity level should be between 80 and 120 parts per million (ppm). If the pH or alkalinity levels are not correct, it can damage the pool equipment and make swimming in the pool water an uncomfortable experience.
